SCA needed branding guidelines for both the parent company and it's affiliate websites. We quickly completed the development of brand books for each.
Brand Identity and Positioning
Fortis Life Sciences presents itself as a strategic platform company that unites a portfolio of specialized life science businesses to accelerate innovation and deliver world-class products with exceptional service. The brand ethos, “Pursuing a Healthier World by Creating Tomorrow’s Science Today,” underscores its commitment to scientific advancement and customer-centric solutions. Fortis uses a minimalistic visual identity—characterized by a quiet, predominantly monochromatic design—to create white-space–driven communication that spotlights customer stories and technical expertise.
Portfolio and Sub-Brands
Under the Fortis umbrella, several legacy brands operate with distinct identities while reinforcing the parent brand’s values:
• Bethyl Laboratories: Established in 1972, renowned for high-quality antibodies and custom services.
• nanoComposix: Since 2004, known for precisely engineered nanomaterials, ISO-certified and FDA-registered.
• Empirical Bioscience: Developer of molecular biology enzymes and reagents with ISO and FDA credentials.
• Arista Biologicals: Specialist in rapid diagnostic reagents for membrane-based assays.
• Abcore: Phage display and single-domain antibody discovery platform.
Visual and Communication Strategy
Fortis’s brand refresh emphasizes simplicity and human-centric storytelling. The design approach uses one font, minimal graphics, and no color, allowing content—particularly photography of customers and scientists—to add vibrancy. Collateral and digital templates employ consistent layouts with subtle brand marks, ensuring cohesive brand recognition across touchpoints.
Vertex Surgical Solutions required comprehensive branding and marketing support to strengthen their presence in the healthcare industry as they continued to grow. Rowe Intermedia took charge of this initiative by developing a distinct logo that reflects the company’s values and expertise. We also created detailed brand guidelines to ensure consistent application of their visual identity across all platforms.
In addition to branding, we designed and produced a variety of marketing materials tailored to their target audience. To maintain cohesion, we developed their social media presence, curating content that aligns with their brand and engages their audience effectively. Finally, we built a user-friendly website that integrates seamlessly with their social media platforms, ensuring a cohesive digital experience that showcases their services and expertise.
